Decentralized Clinical Trials (DCTs) seem to be a popular topic in the clinical trial industry these days. Not only can they increase patient recruitment and retention, but they may also be the meeting point between high patient centricity and financial returns in clinical trials. The developments DCTs have experienced in recent years appear to be a culmination of catering to patient needs and their lifestyles, as well as environmental push factors, such as the COVID 19 pandemic. What’s even more important in the development of DCTs, is that many industry representatives don’t quite yet understand what DCTs are. This is in part due to the fact that they may not be aware of the definition of a DCT and because many new terms have arisen around DCTs, which are being used interchangeably.
